Mae Hong Son, arguably the most picturesque and peaceful town in Thailand, is set in a valley surrounded by high hills 229 miles west of Chiang Mai. Early in the morning, leave for Chiang Mai Airport for Thai Airways? 40 minutes flight to Mae Hong Son.
Upon arrival, start River Pai boat trip to Thai/Burma border to visit Padong long-neck hilltribe, a tribe who strongly hold their language, traditional dress and spiritual beliefs. Then comes the time for an adventurous and exciting elephant ride. Local lunch is provided. Then visit the temple-topped Wat Phrathad Doi Kongmoo, a 1391 feet hill on the edge of town, provides panoramic views of the town and surrounding mountains. If time permit, visit some other Burmese-style temples before departure flight from Mae Hong Son back to Chiang Mai.
