Once you?re kitted up in protection, heavy boots, gloves, arm, knee and elbow pads that will make you feel invincible riding to the start of your journey into the mountains. The ride commences at Huay Tung Tao. Your 250cc Enduro bike fares with the rough terrain better than it does the concrete of major roads; the tread on the tyres look like giant sweet corn nuggets, piles of rocks and natural debris from the forest don?t knock you off the bike.
You don?t have to be an expert to handle the bikes but we?d recommend you are not easily frightened and are reasonably fit.
At certain points into the abyss of jungle you are confronted by tricky paths that take some skill and strength to navigate. Don?t worry about falling because you are wearing so much body armour you could probably be pulled through a woolen carding machine and evade injury.
The view from the inside tracks are more breathtaking than from the exterior roads as your path through the mountain is virtually inaccessible, affording you more of nature and less tourism. It instills some respect for the people who reside up there when you see how hard to get in or out. After two hours of negotiating recalcitrant trails you stop and review your bravery, fortitude and adroitness. At one point in the journey the road is covered with pine needles, which gives the comforting impression of a safety blanket beneath you; the pine trees have been trimmed due to extensive forest fires.
The last stage of the journey is through the main village where many of the hill tribe people?s homes are. We?ll ride down from the hill tribe village exciting onto the main road somewhere on the Samoeng loop. The main road seems quite prosaic after the mountain tracks.
